Veterans Upward Bound to host recruitment luncheon
Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) at UA – Pulaski Tech will host a luncheon April 11 to publicize the program and the benefits it offers to area veterans. The event will take place 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Campus Center Grand Hall on UA-PTC Main Campus.
Participants will receive a boxed lunch and hear a short presentation about the services available through VUB.
“I meet veterans every day who would benefit from attending college,” said VUB Program Academic Coordinator Randall Aragon (LTC Ret., ARNG). “VUB offers these women and men a chance to brush up and get some confidence so they can take full advantage of a post-educational experience and the world of opportunities that higher education opens up, which may include a vocational certificate or a college degree, or both.”
VUB is a precollege service that is free to eligible veterans and service members. VUB offers free academic advising, academic refresher courses, placement testing, personal tutoring, cultural events, and much more. Participants have recently attended Murry’s Dinner Playhouse and toured the Arkansas State Capitol, the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame, and the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum.
Active participants are eligible to receive a stipend of $40 a month.
The event is free of charge but seating is limited. RSVP before March 28 by emailing [email protected], or call VUB Assistant Director Linda Slater at 501-812-2809. A complete overview of the program may be found at www.uaptc.edu/vub.
