Scuba Diving Series: Padi Certification

Is scuba diving on your bucket list? No need to wait any longer, this is the class for you! In this series students are certified for life in just two weekends. Registrants must be present for all sessions to complete the certification, at least 13 years old, and able to swim without help or support. This class makes a great birthday, early Christmas, anniversary, or wedding gift.

Classes will happen over the course of two weekends and will take a total of 6 days, which includes a series orientation. The orientation, plus the first three classes will be held at Ricks Dive and Travel in NLR, AR. Students will learn skills in a classroom and swimming pool. Then, the following weekend participants will meet at Lake Ouachita Marina in Mount Ida, AR to complete their open water dive.

Weekend I

Series Orientation - Wednesday, September 10; 6–8 p.m.
Class one: Friday, September 21; 6–9 p.m.
Class two: Saturday, September 22; 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Class three: Sunday, September 23; 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Weekend II
Location: Lake Ouachita Marina - 359 Ouachita Shores Pkwy, Mt Ida, AR 71957

Class 4: Saturday, September 29; 8:30 a.m. – until finished
Class 5: Sunday, September 30; 8:30 a.m. – until finished

Cost: $550 – This is an all-inclusive price that includes all class material, certification fees, plus rental gear and equipment.

Students may choose to buy their gear instead of renting and will receive a 10% discount on gear at Rick’s Dive and Travel.

Class participants are responsible for their own transportation and are asked to bring a bathing suit or swimming trunks with them to all classes not including the orientation.

Leather Earrings Workshop

Join leather artist and designer, Bryant Phelan for a hands-on workshop where students will learn various leather working techniques, gain knowledge working with different tools and types of leather to create one-of-a-kind earrings. Each student will leave with 2-3 pairs! All earring backs will be silver-plate to guard against any metal allergies.

Wednesday, October 17

Dog Training 101

You will learn about a new and innovative method of dog training called Concept Training. Through the use of games, we can build a strong relationship with your dog, build the desire in your dog to focus on you, orient back toward you in the face of distractions, and value proximity to you above all else. This method is perfect for puppies, rescue dogs, anxious and shy dogs, and certainly for those Naughty but Nice dogs!

  • For consideration into this class please fill out the Dog Training 101 application and return it with your dog’s current immunization to Kristin Howell at [email protected] or by fax at 501-907-6673. All applications will be reviewed and all applicants will be contacted after the review process.
  • Class participants should have their dog on a fixed-length leash and are responsible. No retractable leashes please.

Thursday, October 18

Ghost Hunting and Investigation

Learn the basics of paranormal investigating, the history, equipment and software used, research, conduct and safety from ghost hunter, Rhonda Burton. We will then do an investigation of MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, one of the most haunted buildings in Arkansas.

Items needed: Flashlight, camera, digital voice recorder and any ghost hunting equipment. You can also use your cell phone, but it does limit the quality of your evidence.

Spirit Voices (EVP): How to record and edit voices from beyond

Learn the history of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) and the process of becoming an EVP experimenter, taught by ghost hunter, Rhonda Burton. You will also learn the basics of equipment and software used during recording sessions and how to recognize voices of spirit.
Items needed: Digital voice recorder or any recording device. Cell phones can be used.

Saturday, November 3

Family LEGO® Day on the Hill

Join LEGO® Master Builder Lennon Parker for LEGO® Day on the Hill. Children love building cars, trucks, landmarks and unique creations with LEGO®. Children will build and take home their own LEGO® kit, receive tips for future LEGO® builds, learn LEGO® trivia! Participants will also learn the basic steps in making a LEGO® movie. The course is for children ages 5 and up. Parents or guardians must be present. A cell phone or tablet is recommended for the film making portion.
